Street Acceleration Program

Neighborhood Street Program Receives A Boost

On Wednesday, February 13, 2008, Reno City Council approved the acceleration of the Neighborhood Streets Program.  Noticeable improvements to a greater number of neighborhoods in a shorter period of time will be the result.

The acceleration is a strategy to expedite the repairing of neighborhood streets by using a blended program of surface treatments, reconstruction, and preventative maintenance. It will occur over a three year period starting in 2009. The street acceleration will be funded through existing dedicated Neighborhood Street Funds.

With the acceleration, residents will see the amount of streets per year that will receive reconstruction increase by two to three times, the poorest condition streets will receive reconstruction, more streets will be slurry sealed, and more streets will receive double-micro surface treatments which extends the pavement life of a street by approximately 5-10 years. In addition, the acceleration program will put the Neighborhood Streets Program nine years ahead of schedule.

The City of Reno is dedicated to the improvement and upgrade of neighborhood streets. Make sure to view the map and list of streets for reconstruction as well as the list of candidate streets for surface treatment that are included in the acceleration.  View the powerpoint presentation of the Neighborhood Streets Program that was presented at the City Council Meeting on February 13.
