Reno Teen Center

It's time to find what you want to do and join us for some fun! From homework help to indoor and outdoor sports, we are all about having fun!

Mission:

The Teen Center will provide opportunities for our youth to socialize in a safe, supervised and well-equipped setting. We will provide a diverse educational, creative, and recreational program for youth between the ages of 11-18 years old in a safe, drug and alcohol-free environment.

Our 3 main principles
1) Promotion of youth engagement through supporting and encouraging youth organized recreational sports and giving youth of new opportunities to develop their interests and skills.

2) Interaction with youth on a daily basis to identify interests that they may have with the goal of collaborating of appropriate referrals to the program, activities, or mentoring based on each individual's needs.

3) Building a safe and supportive youth community that fosters responsibility, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and leadership.

Education Opportunities:

Homework assistance will be made available 4-6pm Monday-Thursday.  After-school homework assistance and academic enrichment is provided through students from the University of Nevada, Reno and or Truckee Meadows Community College.  Students from UNR and TMCC will work with any youth in a one-on-one setting and or small groups to build their academic skills and further develop communication abilities with one another. The tutors will also serve as role models and mentors by introducing youth to higher education opportunities.

Creative Zone:

Participants will have the chance to cultivate their skill in art painting, drawing, music, and poetry. Through these opportunities youth can express issues that impact their lives. Participants will have the opportunity to share their ideas with a wider audience through community exhibitions.  Positive transformations are made by our youth in their understanding of themselves and the world around them, giving them the power to change the community around them. By fostering their power and listening to their voices, we will give them the belief that change will happen.

Summer Teen Center Employment Opportunities:

It is our mission to support our youth through obstacles that they might find themselves in and guide them to being responsible productive young adults.  Everyone has to have a first job.  By receiving great mentorship by our staff, youth will foster the components of responsibility, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and leadership; that are needed at any job.  Our youth, if they choose, will have access to potential employment with summer camps that the City of Reno runs during the summer break for our community. This is applicable for youth aged 16+.
