Minimum Qualifications for Firefighter position:

  • 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Possession of a valid drivers license
  • Valid Emergency Medical Technician certification or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician certification
  • Must be in top physical condition (MOST important)

Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications and accepted for testing will be invited to attend a 1 day session which will include a physical agility test, followed by a written exam.  A current CPAT (Candidate Physical Agility Test) certification may be submitted to satisfy the physical agility portion of the recruit testing, in which only the written exam will be required.  To find CPAT information, visit http://www.cffjac.org/go/jac/cpat/.

For a sample of what type of skills a candidate may be asked to perform during the physical agility portion of the Firefighter recruitment test, please see Recruit Physical Agility Station Instructions.  Skills listed may or may not be included in the test but a candidate should come prepared to be physically able to perform each one if asked.  Click here for some suggested Firefighter Conditioning and Work Out tips.

To assist those interested in testing for a Firefighter position, please see Firefighter Sample Test.  This sampling of questions will give candidates an idea of what will be on the written portion of the recruitment exam.

Below is a short video demonstrating what a candidate can expect as far as the physical agility portion of the firefighter exam.
