Community Garden Flyer
A Public Art Scarecrow in the Garden!
The Garden has an intriguing resident - a six foot, 800 lb. mosaic Scarecrow. This wonderful public art piece was designed and built by local artist and sculptor Victoria Sweedler.

The Scarecrow consists of a steel frame surrounded by concrete and mesh wiring and is covered in thousands of pieces of hand cut colorful mosaic tile. Ms. Sweedler, a Community Garden member, spent three years working on this piece. The Ward 3 Neighborhood Advisory Board donated $700 for the supplies and Ms. Sweedler donated all her time to complete the project.

Resident involvement is crucial to the future of the garden. A Garden Club is also available to get to know your fellow gardeners and learn great gardening tips to hone your skills. Gardening can be a challenge in the Truckee Meadows, but from the success of this program, wonderful things can grow in Reno.

Some improvements include:

  • Tilled and composted beds
  • Paved pathways
  • Shade structure/Grape arbor
  • Bulletin board
  • Drinking fountain
