Council Priorities

The Reno City Council establishes annual priorities that are short-term goals for the City. These short-term goals are intended to enable the City to attain long-term goals and achieve the Council's vision for the City.

City Council Priorities For 2009-2010

Communication | Communication Action Plan | Presentation
Enhance communication with the residents and businesses in the city and region by proactively identifying emerging issues; improving long-range communication strategies, and communicating key issues, policy decisions and actions taken by the City Council.

Public Safety | Public Safety Action Plan | Presentation
Maintain high levels of police and fire protection throughout Reno with special emphases on substance abuse issues, response times, customer service and planning for future expansion of the Fire Department.

Green | Green Action Plan | Presentation
Enhance the City’s efforts to reduce its impact on the environment and provide leadership in the community to encourage residents and businesses to join in this effort.

Consolidation | Consolidation Action Plan | Presentation
Consolidate the governments or governmental functions of the City of Reno and the City of Sparks, Washoe County, the Washoe County School District and other entities as they determine consolidation is desirable, reduces taxes and/or improves services.

Financial Management | Financial Management Action Plan | Presentation
Enhance oversight of the City’s financial issues with special emphasis on monitoring revenues and expenditures, and implementing fiscal strategies to address changing economic conditions.

Arts & Culture and Special Events | Arts and Culture Action Plan | Presentation
Focus efforts on partnerships and opportunities to support arts, culture and special event organizations and producers and to provide public art, culture offerings and special events to Reno’s citizens and visitors, and ensure appropriate attention is given to the planning and maintenance of arts and culture facilities, special event venues and the provision of quality programs and services. Communicate with community stakeholders and user groups to ensure arts, culture and special event needs are met.

Parks, Recreation and Community Services | PRCS Action Plan | Presentation
Focus efforts on partnerships and opportunities to provide great Parks, Recreation and Community Services to Reno’s citizens and visitors, and ensure appropriate attention is given to the maintenance of existing facilities and provision of quality programs and services. Communicate with community stakeholders and user groups to ensure community recreation needs are met.
