Advisory: Work to begin Monday at Truckee River Whitewater Park at Wingfield Park

Post Date:10/06/2017 4:21 PM
Media and the public are advised that the City of Reno Public Works department will begin a sediment-removal project at the Truckee River Whitewater Park at Wingfield Park on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 7 a.m.

Work will take place Monday through Friday in the area from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a three- to six-week period. The Truckee River channels in and around Wingfield Park will be affected, and Wingfield Park itself will be partly or fully closed during work hours. During non-work hours some equipment/materials may remain on site, though construction vehicles may be removed each day.

The work is meant to remove the sediment and cobbles deposited during recent flood events and to restore the whitewater park pools to their original dimensions. The project will also improve flows to Virginia Lake from the Cochrane Ditch.

This work has been coordinated with the Carson-Truckee Water Conservancy District. The City is also coordinating with the Army Corps of Engineers and the State of Nevada for all required approvals and permits.
