August 9, 2017 Reno City Council Highlights
In our ongoing commitment to keep citizens and media informed, we’ve summarized the outcomes of a few key agenda items from today’s Regular Meeting of the Reno City Council. The agenda numbers provide convenient links to corresponding City of Reno Staff Reports.
Council directs staff to further evaluate 250 Sage Street as a potential location for permanent overflow shelter (J.2)
There was a presentation and discussion regarding evaluation of the construction of a permanent overflow shelter for homeless persons at one, or all, of the following sites:
250 Sage Street (APN 008-381-33)
1035 East Commercial Row (APN 008-370-34/008-370-20)
Northeast corner of Sage/Commercial Row (APN 008-381-36)
Council unanimously approved to direct staff to determine HUD applicability and conduct public outreach regarding the possible use of 250 Sage Street as a permanent overflow site. The 5.3-acre lot is located near the railroad tracks, east of Sage Street and south of East 4th Street. The motion included direction to staff to work with the state and county to see if there are reasonable alternatives to the Sage Street site.
Council hears update on Truckee River Flood Management Authority's Flood Project (J.1)
There was a presentation and discussion regarding the Truckee River Flood Management Authority's Flood Project, including history, accomplishments, features and funding sources.
Council approves sale of Bella Vista/Corona Cyan Site at public auction (F.2)
F.2.1 - Council unanimously approved to determine Fair Market Value of a 6.5-acre City-owned parcel located at the intersection of Veterans Parkway and Long Meadow Drive, appraised at $2.1 million.
F.2.2 - Council unanimously approved to adopt a Resolution that it is in the best interest of the City to sell the above property at public auction for a minimum price of $2.1 million, plus certain costs and an agreement to develop the property within 12 months from close of sale.
B.8 - Arts and Culture
Council unanimously approved an Agreement for Temporary Donation of Artwork (three pieces of art) from the City of Reno to Washoe County for display at the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner's Office. The addition of the art is meant to make the family waiting room more inviting and comforting.
K.1 - Citizen Appointments to Boards and Commissions
K.1.1 - Council unanimously approved appointment of Doug Roberts to the Building Enterprise Fund Advisory Committee.
K.1.2 - Council unanimously approved appointment of Emerson Marcus and Edan Strekal to the Historical Resources Commission.
Council Donation Funds
Council unanimously approved the following donations:
L.2 - $1,000 to Amplify Life to support their Camp LotsAFun [McKenzie]
L.3 - $1,000 to Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful [McKenzie]
L.4 - $1,000 to the Reno Fire Department budget to offset costs associated with honor guard uniforms [McKenzie]
L.5 - $1,000 to the Reno Police Department budget to offset costs associated with honor guard uniforms [McKenzie]
