Suspects in Sportsman’s Warehouse Burglary arrested after they fled from Officers into California

Post Date:07/30/2014 1:54 PM

On 30 July, 2014 Reno Police Department Burglary Detectives developed additional information on a possible vehicle and of two suspects involved in the theft of numerous handguns from the Sportsman’s Warehouse in south Reno.  An information flier was then distributed to surrounding Law Enforcement agencies for them to be on the lookout for the subjects and vehicle.

Shortly before 830 pm an off duty Official with the State of Nevada Threat Analysis Center who had seen the flier sent out by Reno Police observed a similar car and suspects at the Cabela’s Store located at 2100 Garson Road in Reno.  The Analysis Center employee contacted Reno Police Dispatch and Officers were dispatched to the area to locate the subjects.

Reno Police Department Patrol Officers located the vehicle and when they attempted to stop the vehicle it fled from Officers on Interstate 80 westbound at speeds exceeding 100 mph.  The Washoe County Sheriff’s Department Raven helicopter responded to assist Officers who had slowed their speed for the public’s safety, and Raven then took over the pursuit of the vehicle into California.

Once across the California State line, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Deputies with the Nevada County Sheriff’s Department responded to assist Reno Officers and Raven.  While Raven and Officers followed the fleeing vehicle, it struck several concrete dividing walls which eventually caused two of the vehicles tires to go flat.  Unable to continue to drive the vehicle, the driver exited I80 at the Floriston exit and ran off the roadway.     The male driver and female passenger ran from the vehicle, and attempted to hide from Officers.  A perimeter was established and with the assistance of Raven, and the other responding agencies, the two suspects were quickly taken into custody.

Officers located the stolen handguns and other weapons related items inside the vehicle.

Due to the male and female fleeing into California, they were placed into custody for Possession of Stolen Property and Resisting Public Officers by the CHP Officers and are currently being held in the Nevada County Sheriff’s Department detention facility.  The male suspect later identified as 28 year old California resident Keegan Vaughn DOB 07/15/86 also had two unrelated warrants for his arrest in California.  The female was identified as 26 year old California resident Crystal Rice DOB 01/18/88.

The investigation is continuing and the Reno Police Department is working closely with Federal agencies, the Washoe District Attorney’s Office and the State of California for additional charges and extradition for both suspects back to the State of Nevada.

Anyone with additional information on this case or the subjects arrested are asked to please contact the Reno Police Department at (775) 334-2140 or Secret Witness at (775) 332-4900 or text the tip to 847411 (TIP 411) keyword – SW.
