Regional Gang Unit Attempted Murder Arrest
During their response, Officers found several people had been in a physical altercation, with one subject being stabbed multiple times. This stabbing victim was transported to the hospital and was admitted for what appeared to be life threatening injuries at the time. This victim remained in the hospital for several days. Several other victims of stab wounds arrived at the hospital shortly thereafter and were treated and released. The Regional Gang Unit was asked to assist at the onset of the investigation, due to the incident possibly involving gang members.
The Regional Gang Unit conducted their investigation and found one subject to be responsible for the attack on the above listed victim, whom had received the most severe stab wounds. This suspect was identified as 36 year old Reno resident, Darrell Garrett. On March 31, 2014 two search warrants were served at two different locations in Reno, in reference to this case. Reno Police SWAT assisted in the warrant service due to the violent nature of the offense. The investigation, as well as physical evidence, linked suspect Darrell Garrett to the case and he was subsequently arrested for one count of Attempted Murder with a Deadly Weapon and one count of Battery with a Deadly Weapon. He was also arrested for several narcotics related charges due to evidence found during the service of the search warrants.
The Regional Gang Unit is comprised of Officers from Reno and Sparks Police, School Police, and a Deputy from the Washoe County Sheriff's Office.
