The Office of the Civil Service Commission is responsible for recruiting and developing the selection processes for the majority of positions that make up 93% of the City of Reno's approximate 1200 regular full-time and part-time employees, with the exception of 40 appointed positions and 43 Municipal Court staff. You can find City of Reno job opportunities on the Jobs & Recruitment page.

Civil Service staff are responsible for carrying out the merit system of competition and fitness in procedures for recruiting, evaluating, selecting, employing, promoting, and retaining employees in Civil Service positions in the City of Reno while assuring equal employment opportunities to all.

The Civil Service staff also carries out the mission of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) which is to provide the City of Reno with an efficient work force, with equity to all persons concerned. The CSC is established by the State of Nevada Legislature in the Reno City Charter, Article IX, and is an autonomous body of seven City of Reno citizens who meet once per month. Commissioners have no other connection to the City of Reno and are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council to serve a five year term.
